Mapping Europe's Historic Boundaries and Borders:
An Exploratory Workshop

Our concern is with mapping the changing boundaries of administrative units, from parishes and communes up to nations and empires, as a framework for studying the European past.


The workshop was held at the European University Institute, Florence, Italy, June 2nd to 4th, 2000. Funded by the European Science Foundation under their Exploratory Workshops in the Humanities Programme, the meeting was for a limited number of participants, but we are reporting back to a meeting at the International Congress of Historical Sciences in Oslo, from 14:00 to 17:00 on Thursday 10 August. Everyone is welcome at this session.
