Road book, This is Britain by Road, guide book with strip maps, and road maps by George Philip and Son, by A E Cockeran, published by Clerke and Cockeran, 72-78 Fleet Street, London, about 1949?
The book has a gazetteer of places with descriptions and advertisements, strip maps of routes, descriptive text county by county, town plan street maps, road maps of England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland.
The strip maps have road distances from place to place, and use Ministry of Transport road numbers. The Hampshire sections are:-
pp.83-84 Lyme Regis to Margate - from Lyme Regis, through Shaftesbury, Dorset; Salisbury, Wiltshire; Stockbridge, Winchester, Bramdean, Petersfield, Hampshire; Midhurst, West Sussex; thence to Canterbury and Margate, Kent.
pp.104-105 Winchester to Buxton - from Winchester, through Sutton Scotney, Whitchurch, Hampshire; Newbury, Berkshire; Abingdon, Oxford, Oxfordshire; thence to Buxton, Derbyshire.
pp.109-111 Bognor Regis to Chester - from Bognor Regis, through Chichester, West Sussex; Petersfield, Bramdean, Winchester, Andover, Hampshire; Ludgershall, Marlborough, Wootton Bassett, Malmesbury, Wiltshire; Gloucester, Gloucestershire; thence to Chester, Cheshire.
The Chapter headed 'Hampshire' is just about Bournemouth, which is now in Dorset.
The road map pp.6-7 includes Hampshire.
