Blaeu's Hampshire 1645

Hills John Blaeu uses little hillocks generally shaded on the right, to indicate relief. Perhaps:-
  • important or isolated hills
  • steep scarp
  • uneven ground, hilliness
  • high ground, ie altitude
  • watersheds
The hillocks have a slightly rugged shape; they are not just little tumps. Some are bigger than others; some are grouped; a line of hills sometimes extends into a miniature landscape with bushes and trees; a few are labelled. For example:-
PORTESDOWN
Dunbury hill
Butter hill
