Exports from the stone axe factory on the Pike of Stickle
began about 3000BC; the first recognizable industry in
England. Over a quarter of the 2000 stone axes found in
England Wales come from this site. The axes are a polished
greenstone volcanic tuf.. Stone axes from here have been
found as far off as Poland.
