hearsay Mrs Gaunt was a daughter of Anthony Fothergill of Brownber. She was a protestant, and during the Monmouth Rebellion she sheltered one of the rebels. The rebel informed on her; she was tried, by Judge Jeffries, condemned to death, and burnt at the stake at Tyburn, London, 1685.
Stained glass in the church at Ravenstonedale remembers her.
