At Burton in Warcop parish was born Christopher Bainbridge,
dean of York, bishop of Durham, and archbishop of York, who
was sent ambassador by Henry VIII. to the Pope who created
him a cardinal: but happening to strike his steward, the
revengeful Italian poisoned him, and he died and was buried
at Rome 1511.
