Farmhouse, probably mid/late C18, with wings added c1830 (date on north wing's rear door lintel). Original farmhouse incised stucco with rusticated quoins, wings wet-dashed with corner pilasters. Graduated slate roof with stone ridge and corniced stone chimneys. 2 storeys, 5 bays (1:3:1). Central glazed door with sash to either side on each floor (16-pane to ground floor); right-hand wing has glazed door with sash and small C20 casement above, left-hand wing has C20 casement with sash above. All openings in stone surrounds. Listed primarily for group value.

BARN AND GINGANG TO SOUTH EAST OF HALL SANTON FARMHOUSE / / / IRTON WITH SANTON / COPELAND / CUMBRIA / II / 76240 / NY1016601304

Large ramp barn, incorporating byres and dovecote, with adjoining gin-gang. Barn dated 1847, with initials I. & G.E., on lintel to central byre door; gin-gang probably slightly later. Snecked rubble with rough-dressed sandstone details; chamfered eaves to barn. Graduated slate roofs (gin-gang part Welsh slate); barn has stone ridge with 2 vents. Barn 2 1/2 storeys, 5 bays with full-height wing adjoining to rear at north end; tall gin-gang, semicircular in plan, projects from north side of wing. 3 plank doors to ground floor on west elevation; central and left hand doors have window to either side. 2 loft doors above with 12 dovecote holes between (3 x 4); 4 vent-slits under eaves imitate medieval loop-lights. Trefoil owl-holes in gables. Ramp entrance to rear. Gin-gang has tall entrance at junction with wing; openings around circumference are blocked.

Cart-shed. Probably mid C19 (when farm was remodelled and enlarged). Snecked rubble with rough-dressed sandstone details, including quoins. Graduated slate roof with stone ridge. Symmetrical; 2 storeys, 3 bays. 3 elliptical-headed cart openings and plank door, between fixed windows, above. Included for group value.
