Large house, now subdivided. Large panel over front door has late C17 coat-of-arms of Nevinson family; later alterations. Some blocks; wall of coursed, squared rubble with dressed copings. 45° graduated slateroofs with stone copings. Hall, and cross wings, with canted stair wing to rear. 2 storeys, 8 bays (2:4:2) overall. Hall has central panelled door in architrave with two 2-light windows to left, one 2-light and a small single-light window to right; coat-of-arms in corniced surround above door. Three 3-light windows and small single-light window to 1st floor. Continuous hoodmoulds to both floors. Wings have 3-light window to each floor on inner returns; chamfered jamb to larger, earlier window visible on ground floor at junction of Hall and west wing. 2-light window to each floor of gable ends with blocked attic windows above. All windows in chamfered surrounds under hoodmoulds; original chamfered mullions retained. Most windows square-leaded. Windows to rear, and outer returns of wings, similar; some blocked openings and some inserted doors and windows to rear. Stepped stone mid and end chimneys. Interior: Large segment-arched fireplace in ground floor of Hall. R.C.H.M. (1936) records C17 panelling to ground and 1st floor rooms with moulded surround of c.1700 to attic fireplace. Low retaining wall (c.3 ft high) to north side of sunken area in front of entrance, between cross-wings.

Gatepiers, forecourt walls and attached enclosure walling to east. Lintel to door in east return wall dated 1685 with initials I. & E.N. (Nevinsn). Coursed rubble walls, ashlar piers. Front walls c.2 1/2 ft high; wide, flat copings with moulded edge. Gate piers square in plan, c.10 ft high overall: Chamfered ashlar blocks with fluted cap; cornice surmounted by ball finial with gadrooned upper hemisphere. Return walls c.8 ft high. Each wall has doorway through, adjoining house; east doorway has chamfered surround with ornately carved lintel, west doorway has chamfered lintel. West face of west side wall with 2 bee boles. Bonded to east end of forecourt front walling, approx 215 ft long and 6ft high, formerly part of enclosure walling of the garden and orchard of Newby Hall.
