| Penny Bridge -- Crake, River -- Penny Bridge -- Egton with Newland -- Cumbria / -- The fish is very stylised but most closely resembles a carp, Cyprinus carpio L.; general shape, long dorsal fin and large rounded tail. (It cannot be a member of the Salmonidae, Salmon, Trout, Charr, etc, as it lacks a small fleshy adipose fin between the dorsal fin and the caudal fin.) I suspect the artist just drew a generalised fish shape which just happens to look like a carp! - Chris Palmer, HMCMS. -- 5.8.2005 | |
