Dated 1626, the north and south-west wings late C17. Roughcast stone rubble, old slate roof with laced valleys and 5 round chimneys, tapering, on square bases. 2 storeys, with slate dripstone over ground floor. Wood-mullioned windows (four of 5 lights, three of 3 lights). L plan, with gabled wing to sough-west with later windows. A small overhanging oriel with a catslide roof. Doorway in angle of L. Rear wing has spiral staircase with cross windows. A small wing to east has 3 round chimneys. Said to have good interior. For group notes see General group description under Troutbeck village.

hearsay Built by George Browne, 1620s, on the site of an earlier house. He lived here with his wife Susanah, and the Browne Family remained here for 318 years.
There are bee boles in the side of the house.
