| Dated 1626, the north and south-west wings late C17. Roughcast stone rubble, old slate roof with laced valleys and 5 round chimneys, tapering, on square bases. 2 storeys, with slate dripstone over ground floor. Wood-mullioned windows (four of 5 lights, three of 3 lights). L plan, with gabled wing to sough-west with later windows. A small overhanging oriel with a catslide roof. Doorway in angle of L. Rear wing has spiral staircase with cross windows. A small wing to east has 3 round chimneys. Said to have good interior. For group notes see General group description under Troutbeck village. | ||

Built by George Browne, 1620s, on the site of an earlier
house. He lived here with his wife Susanah, and the Browne
Family remained here for 318 years.
