Farmhouse with attached cottage. Built in 1828 as an inn but never use as such; extended in 1879. Thin coursed rubble with quoins, the front painted white; slate roof. Double-depth plan on east-west axis facing north, with 1-bay extension at east end and 1-bay cottage at west end. 2 storeys, 1:3:1 windows. The 3-window portion is symmetrical, with a square-headed doorway in the centre, a datestone over this, two 16-pane hornless sashes at 1st floor and 3 above; all these openings have plain surrounds painted black. The extension to the left has a square 2-light casement at 1st floor, with glazing bars. The cottage to the right has a doorway and altered window at ground floor and a sash above, like the others.
INTERIOR not inspected but believed to have 3 vaulted cellars.
HISTORICAL NOTE: built as inn in anticipation of improvement of old road from Grisdale to Fell End, which was not built. Forms group with adjoining barn to west.

Bank barn. 1879. Coursed rubble with rock-faced quoins and some through-stones, slate roof. Rectangular plan on east-west axis facing north, with shippon under west end. Offset left of centre is a segmental-headed wagon doorway with rubble voussoirs, flanked by blind bulls-eye windows with rusticated surrounds, and approached by a straight ramp protected by rubble side walls. To the right of the ramp is a small window to the shippon, and through-stones on 4 levels. The west gable wall, with similar through-stones, has 3 shippon doorways with square windows between them. Large lean-to addition to rear. Forms group with Uldale House adjoining to the left (qv).
