Edward Troughton was born at Welcome Nook, Corney, 1753. He
became a well known scientific instrument maker, sextants,
telescopes, barometers, etc. He invented a new way of
graduating arcs of circles. Some of his instruments are in
the Royal Observatory, Greenwich, where there is a sculpture
of him by Sir Francis Chenty. He died 1835, age 82.
There is/was a sundial by him in the garden. | |
