| hearsay |
During late July and early August 1908 there were minor
earth tremors in the area, coming from Whiteside. 14 August
1908, W C Hope was bringing in hay at Cornhow when there was
a great groaning rumble, and he saw what looked like a cloud
of smoke rising, and rocks came tumbling down from the
mountain side.
