hearsay This area was inhabited long in the past, and was later an important meeting place.
People from Eskdale, Wasdale, and Miterdale valleys would celebrate Beltane here, with bonfires in May.

hearsay There was a corpse road over the moor from Wasdale to Boot and St Catherine's Church. One packhorse carrying the coffin of Thomas Porter, bolted into the mist with the coffin on its back.
