notes A London newspaper reported:-
CHANGE RINGING.- On Friday last was rung a complete 5040 Grandsire Tripples, in three hours and twenty minutes, at St. Mary's Church, Kendal, by the Wesmoreland Youths, being the greatest number of changes ever rung at one time upon that noble peal. The peal was divided into ten parts, or courses, of 504 each. The bobs were called by the sixth: a lead single was made in the middle of the peal, and another at the conclusion, which brought the bells home. Distinct leads and exact divisions were minutely observed throughout the whole of the peal.
