hearsay There was a gallery facing the arch which has been altered to become part of the room behind. The old balusters were once kept in the woodshed, and in the house there is/was a picture of the gallery as it was.

hearsay Mary Elizabeth Gaunt, daughter of Anthony Fothergill, lived here. She was an Anabaptist and friend of James Burton. He was involved in the Rye House Plot to murder Charles II and James, Duke of York, 1683. Mary Gaunt gave him sanctuary when he was being sought. Being betrayed, she was tried and was the last woman to be burnt at the stake, Tyburn, London, 16 October 1685.
