| Various commercial premises. c1865. Stucco and painted brick, slate roofs. 3 storeys, 2:2:2:2 bays to Duke Street with angled corner bay on left and 4:2 bay left return to St Vincent Street. Differing facades within similar format. No.81 has recessed entrance in fully-glazed shop front under fascia and cornice wrapped around corner site; 1st floor with 4-pane sashes in shouldered and eared architraves; 2nd floor has 4-pane sashes with projecting sills (the corner windows are blind). Nos 83 & 85: facade remodelled C20, altered ground floor; sunken-panelled pilasters flank margin-glazed sashes in architraves, the 1st-floor windows corniced. No.87: probably original, fully-glazed shop front with recessed central door and overlight with lettering stating 'ESTABLISHED 1868'; the windows with basket-arched transom lights, fascia and cornice. 1st-floor sill band to large, central 4-light window with basket-arched lights in shouldered and eared architrave; 2 later casements to 2nd floor. No.89: facade remodelled C20, altered ground floor; 1st floor has altered 4-pane sashes in eared architraves with cornices; 2nd floor with 4-pane sashes in raised surrounds. Whole range has 2nd-floor lintel band and moulded eaves cornice (the cornice over No.89 differs). Brick ridge stacks on the party walls; hipped roof over corner. No.81 illustrated in 1886 when occupied by Adam Ainsworth (Almanack) and again c1925 as 'STUDHOLMES COSTUMIERS' (Trescatheric). | ||
