| Farmhouse and barn. Early or mid C17, with extension dated and inscribed W. & M.M. 1684 over entrance,and late C17 barn. Incised stucco walls on large cobble plinth, under graduated greenslate roof with banded red sandstone chimney stacks. Barn of whitewashed rubble walls under graduated greenslate roof. Central part appears to be the earlier farmhouse of 2 storeys, 2 bays with right 2-bay barn under common roof and left new higher farmhouse of 2 storeys, 2 bays. Oldest part has Tudor-arched cross-passage doorway under hoodmould. 3-light stone-mullioned windows, those on upper-floor paired giving the appearance of a 6-light window, that on ground-floor under hoodmould. Small right firewindow. Left house has central Tudor-arched doorway with C20 door under panel inscribed MAN THAT IS BORN OF WOMAN ..... (in 4 lines), date, carved dove and wheel decorations. Flanking sash windows in C19 painted stone surrounds. Barn has C20 plank doors in C20 opening under small oval vents. Right return wall has Tudor-arched doorway. Rear of original house and barn have Tudor-arched doorways. Rear of new house has outshut with catslide roof and sash windows in C19 stone surrounds. Interior: both houses have C18 stone fireplaces and beamed ceilings. | ||
