Haining, Peter: 1978: Great English Earthquake
| hearsay |
This is described by Peter Haining as producing two long
fissures 'into which houses and cattle sank', and that the
Gentlemen's Magazine reported it with a violent shock and
explosion. I have been unable to trace the report in the
Gents Mag.
The earthquake report was declared to be a hoax in the Newcastle Chronicle, 13 March 1790.
