Farmhouse. Probably mid C16 with extension and alterations dated internally 1667; with further extension and alterations dated and inscribed T & SD 1727 (and TE DEUM LAUDAMUS) and further C19 and C20 alterations. Cement render over sandstone rubble walls; graduated greenslate roof with banded ashlar chimney stacks. 2 storeys, 3 bays with 2-bay right extension under common roof; lower right 2-storey, 2-bay C18 extension. Left part has centre C20 door in round-headed C18 surround with false imposts and keystone. Sash windows in C19 stone surrounds, and enlarged firewindow; the upper-floor windows under the continuous hoodmould of the 3 original windows. Right part has one original chamfered-surround window under hoodmould, its stone mullion removed. C19 surrounds to windows above, under the continuous hoodmould of the 2 original windows. Right extension has C20 door in C18 stone surround; one of the stones inscribed. Upper-floor C18 large 3-light window, the remainder being sashes in C19 stone surrounds. The rear has an outshut of 2 periods: the right part has a chamfered-surround window with its mullion removed, the left stair outshut covering a Tudor-arched doorway. Other upper-floor chamfered-surround windows, with stone mullions removed, under hoodmoulds. Extension has blocked doorway and a further doorway with a reused Tudor lintel. The interior has many original features. An C18 stone fireplace with flanking cupboard recesses within C17 inglenook with stone heck and firebeam. Full ceiling beams, the central one dated 1667. In the passage is another beam also dated 1667. Backing the C17 inglenook is an C18 inglenook. The outshut has a spiral stone staircase from ground-floor to first floor; this may have come from Blencow Hall but could be part of this C16 house.
