Beware when reading books about mines in Cumbria, that coal mines tend to get poor coverage.

Bowen and Bowen 1767 Cumberland and Westmorland
Stretching down the side of Derwent Water is a three part label:-
'Royal mines / Black Lead / Watendlath Mines'
The first refer to the headquarters of the Company of Mines Royal in Keswick, and on Derwent Island. The second to the black lead mine in Seathwaite.
South of Milburn Forest is a group of circles labelled:-
'Lead Mines'
Bowen and Kitchin 1760 East of Knock are:-
'Lead Mines'
and on Rumary Fell, SE of Dufton Pike:-
'Lead Mines'
both marked by dots.
Beside Derwent Water, level with one of the islands, is labelled:-
